Challenge
AMTs (Airline Maintenance Technicians) juggled safety‑critical tasks across paper + legacy desktop tools that didn’t reflect how work actually happens on the ramp. Additionally, the client had no mobile design or dev experience, making the eventual handoff feel unlikely to be successful long-term.
Approach
Codified success early, then designed the simplest thing that worked. We paired field research with low fi user testing, validating final design on device. To address the handoff issue, we designed an entire curriculum starting from the basics, paired instruction with OTJ, and decomposed the work into chunks that aligned with their skill levels..
Outcomes
Functional AMT app delivered in ~5 months. Client designers continued shipping features post‑handoff, reducing long‑term vendor dependence.
